Community Service
Giving back to our community is high on our list of priorities. Charlie Brommer, Sr. is a current member of the city’s Beach and Dune committee and regularly attends the South Padre Island Board of Aldermen and Cameron County Commissioners Court meetings. He is often asked to comment on issues related to the beach and tourism. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce in good standing, he also attends many of the meetings of the Visitors’ Bureau and Convention Center and various other committees on the island.
Rachel Wilson-Brommer is a past board member of the American Red Cross and served as Disaster Chairman for several years. She is currently a member of the Texas Nurses Association and has participated in Leadership Brownsville, successfully completing that program as a member of Class of XIII. Both Charlie and Rachel are active leaders in a variety of community activities and assist in sponsoring various youth programs on the Island.
Scholarship
TBS is very proud of our scholarship fundraising efforts and each year we host a “Mid Summer Soirée” to raise money for our beach workers who are attending college. We have raised and distributed over $4500 since 2004. We have also received several generous private donations and gifts from other island businesses and charities for inclusion into our scholarship fund.
